Waste Type GUIDE

Understanding waste categories

To make disposal safe, efficient and compliant, each skip must contain the right type of waste.
Here’s how to choose the correct option when you book online.

HEAVY INERT

Heavy inert waste consists of dense, non-reactive materials typically found in construction and landscaping projects.

Examples include concrete, bricks, gravel, soil and sand.

For the disposal of rubble, we offer dedicated hardcore-only skips, though additional fees may apply if the waste is contaminated.

Mixed construction and demolition

Mixed construction and demolition waste includes a combination of materials generated from building, renovating or demolishing structures. This may include wood, metal, plastic, insulation, concrete and other debris. Our team is equipped to sort and recycle these materials in line with industry guidelines, reducing environmental impact and ensuring responsible disposal.

Plasterboard

Plasterboard waste refers to gypsum-based boards used in construction, also known as drywall.

It cannot be disposed of alongside general waste due to its potential to release harmful gases when decomposed in landfills.

It requires separate handling and recycling to minimise environmental harm and ensure proper disposal. Rabbit Waste Management is fully registered with the Environmental Agency under the Control of Pollution Act 1989.

WOOD AND GREENERY

Wood-only non-hazardous waste consists of untreated, uncontaminated wood from sources such as such as construction, carpentry, demolition or the garden.

Soils cannot be accepted within this type of skip, please book our Heavy Inert skip for this type of waste.

Untreated, uncontaminated wood is recyclable and can be repurposed into wood chips or mulch. It can also be used as a biomass fuel, which we process at our energy recovery facility.

Hardcore

Hardcore refers to heavy, solid materials that are inert (non-reactive) and commonly used in construction or groundworks.

It is typically crushed or broken-up brick, concrete, stone, or rubble (must not contain any soil or sand). These materials do not decompose or release harmful chemicals, making them relatively safe for disposal and often suitable for recycling or reuse.

Household Clearance

Ideal for full or partial house clearances, this skip is perfect for removing general waste from lofts, garages, gardens, and sheds (must not contain any heavy inert or hardcore).

Suitable for disposing of:

  • Bagged household rubbish
  • Broken tools, toys & bric-a-brac
  • Non-electrical household items
  • Light garden waste (excluding soil and rubble
